Mulled wine or Glühwein, as it’s known in Germany, is perfect for the holiday season when the weather is nice and crisp. This warm, spiced mulled black cherry merlot will fill your home with a delicious aroma and it’ll warm you from the inside out.
While there are many combinations you can use to make a great mulled wine, black cherry merlot is arguably one of the best. 1 bottle tart or sweet cherry juice
1 bottle dry red wine
1/3 cup granulated sugar (approx.)
7 whole berries allspice berries
4 whole cloves
4 slices fresh ginger
2 cinnamon sticks, broken
1 orange, sliced
Set a large saucepan over medium heat. Heat the cherry juice, wine, sugar, allspice berries, cloves, ginger and cinnamon.
Reduce the heat to just below a simmer. Allow it to steep for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Carefully taste and add more sugar if needed. Pour the drink into heat-proof mugs or glasses; garnish with orange slices. This recipe yields 6-8 servings.
